Casablanca, Morocco, Capital Markets in Africa — Morocco Equity Markets maintained the positive sentiment. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) surged by 1.12 percent to close at 9,219.13 points (with a year-to-date performance to -4.17 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 470.636 billion (an increase of MAD 4.2 billion or US$430 million relative to previous market capitalization of MAD 466.470). The market activity measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 46.780 million compared to MAD 62.912 recorded at previous trading session.
Likewise, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,552.48 points (soared by 1.18 percent compared to previous trading session). FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index advanced by 1.46 percent to close at 8,095.35 points (-8.22 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index rose by 1.49 percent to end at 7,764.75 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -3.67 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Holding Companies, Construction & Building Materials and Mining sector indices advanced by 4.08 percent, 3.13 percent and 2.97 percent respectively. On the negative side, Transport sector index (went down by 3.91 percent to close the year-to-date performance at 21.08 percent), Leisures & Hotels sector index (lost 3.61 percent to end at 40.52 percent year-to-date return) and Electrical & Electronic sector index (crashed by 3.41 percent to end at 4,000.00 levels).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were, SMI rose by 5.99 percent to end at MAD 2,513.00 and MAROC LEASING gained 5.99 percent to settle at MAD 368.65. MINIERE TOUISSIT also added 5.66 percent or MAD 60.00 with closing price of MAD 1,120.00 as well as LAFARGE CIMENTS climbed by 5.63 percent to end at MAD 1,690.00. However, IB MAROC.COM and BMCI SAGGED by 5.99 percent (to settle at MAD 106.70) and lost 5.08 percent (to trade at MAD 560.00) respectively. CDM and CTM also sagged by 5.00 percent (with closing price of MAD 437.00) and crashed by 5.00 percent (to settle at MAD 410.00) respectively.
